Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, we’re so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside.

Dear Readers,

I must apologize for the great divide between the first edition and the second edition of this austere publication.  This cub reporter, Jimmy Glockenspiel, during week 2 of the construction of this wonderful home, while hammering one of several hundred nails hanging siding, smashed his thumb while trying to strike the head of a 10- penny nail.  It was approximately 50 degrees that day and despite the efforts of the American Red Cross, the Winter Haven Hospital emergency room and a dedicated set of doctors from the set of M*A*S*H, my typing was temporarily out of commission.

During week 2 there were approximately 30-40 wonderful volunteers doing everything in their power to help provide this wonderful home to Ms. Brenda Rose and her family.  Donuts and coffee were served during the scheduled break and for lunch a wonderful meal of gourmet burgers, sweet slaw and sweet tea were served.  You missed a wonderful meal.

Alan Harvey, Associate Pastor of First Pres of WH was noticeably absent this week.  He had been called to England for a high level conference with Mr. Bond and “Q”, to help design the latest in covert equipment.  Rumor has it, it is a pilot program with a working title called “Alan Harvey, Associate Pastor Undercover”.  There will be open try-outs for Associate Pastors from Imperial Polk County.  Maybe FOX will pick it up as a fall replacement series.

Since week 2, there has been significant progress on the home.  Interior framing studs, no not you Jim Lammer, have been installed, roof trusses have gone up, some roofing has occurred and three million nails have been hammered.  Most of them have been hammered into the wood.  Hurricane strips have been installed and a lot of friendships have been forged. (This is a great place to meet some new friends and some incredible folks).

Just so you know, Bob Grode, a Habitat board member and FP of WH church member was not there.  He has been assessed a $4 fine which shall be applied to the building materials.

The address of the home is 277 18th St, NE.  To get there, go out Dundee Road to 17th St and turn left (this is the street between the Circle K and the Jj Tack Shack).  Go to the first street and take a right.  Follow this street as it turns left and the home site is the last lot on the left.

Work begins every Saturday at 8:00AM unless it is raining.

This is a very worthwhile endeavor and worthy of your time.  It really is.  I would encourage any and all of you to come out and lend a hand.  You don’t need any particular skills, just a willingness to work.  There is always something to you to do.  Even if it is putting on band-aids, getting some one a soft drink, picking up scraps and taking them to the dumpster or just saying “at a boy” when the heavy lifting starts.

CYA Saturday at 8:00 AM.

To be continued……….
