Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him.
Matthew 10:1-4

What’s in a name? What significance does your name hold?

In the gospels we find the names of 12 people who followed Jesus. We are treated to more detailed stories of a few (Peter, Judas, Thomas, James, and John). It might be best that we don’t know as much about some of the rest. What is most significant is that these 12 felt that Jesus called them, individually, by name – and they followed him.

Have you felt Jesus’ call? Are you following Him?

Prayer

God, let me celebrate that I have been called by name, as I join the 12 following my Lord and Savior Jesus as a faithful disciple today and each day. Amen.
