Matthew 1:1-2:12, Luke 1:26-2:40

The stories of advent appear throughout the books of Matthew and Luke. There is lots to read and consider as each Gospel shares a different perspective of this incredible story of God made flesh in the form of a human baby. Advent is all about preparing…preparing for the coming of Christ into our world and lives. We celebrate this in the stories with nativity sets, carols, candles, wise men, and shepherds. We focus on the coming of Christ in the story, but it is also a call to prepare for Christ coming into our lives today and throughout the coming year. God is always coming and we are called to be prepared, to make the way clear for God’s return.

What Advent story is your favorite?

How do you prepare for the coming of Christ in your daily life?

How do the stories of advent challenge you to think about how you welcome Jesus even in February?

Prayer

Loving God, we rejoice at the ways we welcome Jesus into our lives. Help us to prepare our hearts and lives for Your coming every day. May we celebrate the joy of Advent and Christmas throughout the year as we share Your love, joy, hope, and peace. Amen.
