Our next series of devotionals will be on people of the Bible.
According to the WebBible Encyclopedia there are 1,181 men’s and 188 women’s names mentioned in the Bible. Among these are those most familiar to us … Adam, Noah, Sarah, Moses, Ruth, David, Elijah, Isaiah, Jonah, Mary, Elizabeth, Peter, Paul, and Lydia, to name a few. There are many more with singular references. We do not plan to write a devotional on each one of them.
There are also unnamed persons whose stories are found in the Bible: the Father, Prodigal Son, and Elder Brother of the parable, the widow of Zarephath, the Syrophoenician woman, the woman at the well, the man robbed and left for dead, Jairus’ daughter, the boy who shared his lunch with Jesus, and more.
In the days and weeks ahead we will focus our attention on some of these to see what we can learn and how we can be drawn into closer communion with God as part of our daily worship.
