Song of Solomon 2:9

⁹ My beloved is like a gazelle
    or a young stag.
Look, there he stands
    behind our wall,
gazing in at the windows,
    looking through the lattice.

Some animals just evoke a certain image. The sloth makes me think of going slow. The eagle is majestic as it soars overhead. And the word that comes to mind with gazelle is graceful. God has made some amazing creatures, like the gazelle.

In the Old Testament love poem known as the Song of Solomon, one person longingly looks upon their beloved as a gazelle or a young stag. Admiration of a graceful human creature is another gift of God.

Prayer

Thank you, God, for the beauty you have given us to behold. For a graceful wild creature that might cross our path, and for those whose appearance we also find lovely. Amen.
