Devotional Thoughts Based on the Glory to God Hymnal
Psalm 150-6
The first question in the Larger and Shorter Catechisms asks “What is the chief end of humanity?” The answer that was to be memorized and then recited by Confirmands in response: “Our chief end in life is to enjoy God and glorify God forever.” In short, everything that breathes should use everything at their disposal to give praise and thanks to God.
The last verse in Psalm 150, the last song in this songbook of ancient Israel, takes up the theme like this:
6 Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
We are the creatures of our God and King. We need to lift up our voices and sing, as we praise the Lord.
God, let me start my day thinking about what you have done for me. Let me live this day in constant praise, lifting my voice in thanks. Amen.
