An Alphabet of Gratitude: D

I am thankful for doors.

Matthew 7:7

“Ask, and it will be given to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. Everyone who asks will receive. The one who searches will find. The door will be opened to the one who knocks.”

Truthfully, the first ideas that came to mind when thinking of what I am grateful for that starts with the letter “D” was “dog” (we just adopted a new furry addition to the family) and “dad”. But I wanted to focus on something a little different…“door”. How are doors a blessing? They keep our homes and cars secure. They allow us to keep air condition air inside so we can stay cool. Symbolically, locked doors can represent things we can’t attain or get to at this time. However, figurative doors can also symbolize new opportunities, experiences, and directions in our life. Opening a door and crossing the threshold can represent the movement from one stage in life to another. Whether literal or figurative, doors serve as a link between two spaces. I am grateful for the possibilities that doors represent. I am grateful that God is present with me no matter what doors I encounter or go through today.

Prayer

Holy God, watch over us today. Thank You for being with us this day in every door that we go through and the thresholds we cross. Help us to recognize the doors that we close to others and may we seek to open doors for others today. Thank You for all Your blessings. In Your name we pray, Amen.
