I am thankful for love.

I John 4:7-8

“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

The letter L has some big ones for me: life, liberty, laughter, Loli (my wife), but I’m going to go with love for today’s devotional. Think about the number of songs and poems that focus on love. What are some of your favorite love songs? Love Is a Battlefield. Love Is a Many Splendored Thing. Love Ss All You Need. The song list goes on and on.

Love is part of the human condition and that makes sense. We affirm in scripture that God is love and that we are created in God’s image. By that rationale, we are created to love. We are called to be in relationship with God and with one another. What does that mean? It means we are to live our lives in response to God’s love by walking with others in times of trouble and celebrating their joys; it means sharing God’s love with others through service and care; it means loving God through worship, prayer, and praise. Love truly is the core of it all. May today be a day that you seek to love God, your neighbor, and yourself.

Prayer

Loving God, thank You for the gift of love. Thank You for loving me and showing me how to love others through the life and ministry of Jesus. Strengthen me to show and share Your love with others today. Thank You for all Your blessings. In Your name I pray, Amen.
