I am thankful for rest.

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Today, I am thankful for the gift of rest. Other options for today included ribeye steaks, roller coasters, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, running, and robots. There is something special about rest. It is different than sleep. Rest provides space and allows us to consciously make a decision to pause and recharge. We live such busy lives that it is easy to get caught up in the to-do lists, the errands to be run, and the commitments to others. God has provided us with the gift of rest. Rest is needed for gratitude. Rest provides us with those moments to pause and reflect. Rest allows us to be awake enough to feel grateful, to appreciate God’s blessings, and to share our light and love with others. What provides rest is different for each of us. It might be a nap, reading a good book, enjoying music, taking a walk outside, visiting a friend, or just watching a sunset. How will you celebrate the gift of rest today?

Prayer

Holy God, I thank You for the gift of rest. In the midst of today’s busy schedule, help me to find time to rest in You. Guide me to seek moments where I can pause to give You thanks and praise. Quiet the noise in my life, clear the clutter in my heart, and silence the distractions that prevent me from answering Your call to love others and walk in Your ways. Thank You for all Your blessings. In Your name I pray, Amen.
