Colossians 4:2

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

A few weeks ago, I shared a sermon that focused on the role of gratitude in our Christian faith. As disciples, we are called to recognize God’s blessings in our lives and then respond with thanks and praise. Simply put, a life of faith is marked by gratitude. In the children’s sermon for that day, we carried out an alphabet prayer where we went through the alphabet and thanked God for things that start with each letter. The adults in church helped out and we had a great list of blessing as we worked our way through the prayer. Truthfully, we should have that attitude and approach to gratitude every day. We should take time daily to recognize that all that we have is a gift from God and to respond with thanks, praise, and prayer. So, for the next month the pastoral staff will be sharing devotions on what they are thankful for (using the alphabet as our guide). We invite you to join us in a journey of gratitude and to express your thanks to God as well.

Prayer

Merciful God, we have so much to be grateful for. Even if all that we have is the breath in our lungs, we know that it is a gift from You. Help us to recognize Your blessing and respond with praise. May we share our gratitude with others and seek to care for all our brothers and sisters. Help us to recognize Your hand in our lives and to be grateful. In Your name we pray, Amen.
