Several years ago when I was living on my own and had my first Christmas tree, my Grandma Jo gave me her Angel Tree Topper which she had purchased because she looked like me. Grandma would always comment on how our hair matched (this was when I was younger and had red hair just like my son Jonathan). For over 8 years I would proudly put her on top of my Christmas tree.

When it was time to pull out the Christmas ornaments and decor at our new home together as Mr. & Mrs. McKee, we could not find the Angel Tree Topper. My heart sank. So I did what any girl in her right mind would do – I called my mom. Luckily for me, Grandma Jo had purchased two Angel Tree Toppers and had given one to my mom as well. My mom was more than happy to give me hers.

I now make sure she stays in the Christmas closet, safely tucked inside each year. This year (2016 when I’m writing this) is my first Christmas without my Grandma Jo and as I pulled out the Angel Tree Topper my heart got a little sad at first, but then remembered I have my very own Heavenly Angel watching over me every day of the year.

Prayer

O Lord, we remember our loved ones who celebrated Jesus’ birth with us and now rejoice in Christ’s presence. Comfort those who grieve still with wonderful memories and the reassurance that they now watch over us. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
