Bearing Fruit

“Oh , the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbanks, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” Psalm 1:1-3

As I opened my bible to read Psalm 1 to begin writing my devotion this morning I noticed I had written in my bible a while back on this chapter.  It spoke to my heart then as it has today. I love that these verses remind us to “meditate on God’s word day and night so that we can be like trees planted along riverbanks, bearing much fruit”. This tree grows because it is constantly nourished in that space. We can’t grow strong in our faith if we aren’t nourished by God’s word regularly.

After reading these verses I was reminded of another verse I recently read from Deuteronomy 29:29, “The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions. “ When we read God’s Word we are accountable for what we read and now know. I pray each day that what I tell others regarding how I live God’s word comes from Him not me. Let it be His words to my lips, not my emotions about such things. I pray that my words bring glory and honor to His name and build up, not tear down, in the process. Let us be truth speakers of God’s word today even if that truth is hard to speak and even harder to hear.  May we also do all of these things through the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.

Prayer

Gracious God,  I pray that I am able to read your word and stand firm in my faith like the tree planted along the riverbank, bearing much fruit. In Jesus Name, Amen
