I have mentioned, before, that I have helped in the planning of our Community Easter Sunrise Service for many years. This year, as a musician from one of the local churches was offering her talents for worship, and it was suggested by her pastor that we sing this song that crosses denominational bounds. Bill and Gloria Gaither, songwriting giants in the Southern Gospel movement, wrote and recorded this song in the 1960s. It has found its way into many Easter celebrations, and is used throughout the year to make the Easter message relevant in our lives.
Because He Lives
God sent His son
They called Him Jesus
He came to love
Heal and forgive
He bled and died
To buy my pardon
An empty grave
Is there to prove
My Savior livesAnd because He lives
I can face tomorrow
Because He lives
All fear is gone
Because I know
He holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because He livesAnd then one day
I’ll cross the river
And I’ll fight life’s final war with pain
And then
As death gives way to victory
I’ll see the lights of glory
And I’ll know He reignsBecause He lives
I can face tomorrow
Because He lives
All fear is gone
Because I know
He holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because He lives (He lives)Hallelujah
He lives
We do remember God’s actions in the cross and the empty tomb. And our life is worth living because our Savior lives.
Prayer
Gracious God, we thank you for making a difference in each moment of our lives, because of what was done for us by Jesus on that first Easter weekend. Amen.
