Looking Back Over Jesus’ Life

Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God.
John 3:1-2

Nicodemus, who had at first come to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, weighing about a hundred pounds. They [Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus] took the body of Jesus and wrapped it with the spices in linen cloths, according to the burial custom of the Jews.
John 19:39-40

Nicodemus was a man who lived in the time of Jesus. Nicodemus was a Pharisee, a leader in the Jewish Temple. And Nicodemus was a man of faith who followed Jesus.

When I think about people who have helped deepen my faith, I must speak about Christian leaders. As a pastor, I have the opportunity regularly to work side by side with deacons and elders, leaders in our church. And I am inspired by their examples of how to walk with Jesus.

Look at the list of elders and deacons in our church. Watch these people as they worship God. Watch as they serve people in the name of Jesus. Watch how they “walk the talk” as everyday disciples of our Lord and Savior. Watch, and then live like they do.

Prayer

God, thank You for those people who answer the call to serve as leaders in Your church. Strengthen them in their faith, so that as we follow their lead, we too will be faithfully following our Lord and Savior Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
