Psalm 90

On Christmas Day, when I was 5, I woke up to find my very own house next to the Christmas tree! It was about 3’ by 4’ and it was made out of cardboard. It had a gingerbread motif, with a fancy “tiled” roof, four open windows and a red door. This little house was just big enough for me or if I was feeling especially generous, which didn’t happen very often, it would fit my little brother, too. The house, so charming in my view, had one feature that made it the best gift ever…and that feature was a mail slot. Over the course of the next year I spent many hours in that house and my mother made sure that I regularly received letters. Getting my own mail was the highlight of the week, it affirmed that she was thinking of me and that I was important to her.

As an adult, I’ve been blessed to work in a setting that surrounds me with young children. I continue the tradition of “giving mail”, remembering how much a simple note transformed my day!

Prayer

O God, each day that we open our Bibles we receive “mail” from You. You tell us that You love us. You remind us that You are always with us. You reassure us Your grace will be sufficient for all of our needs. We thank You for these daily messages. In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.
