In our Glory to God Hymnbook, Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain follows The Day of Resurrection (which follows Jesus Christ is Risen Today). This Easter hymn is in good company. Its message is rich with Christ’s three-day sleep, the gates of death, and the spring of souls. The editors of the hymnal tell us that Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain was an 8th century Eastertide hymn that was translated into English in the 18th century.
And its words have become our words on many Easters.
Prayer
O God, who delivered your people Israel from bondage, we praise you for the victory over sin and death we celebrate at Easter. Thank you for the deep peace we find in our salvation through our Lord and Savior, Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
