Most Gracious God, we give You thanks for a night’s rest and this new day.
We thank You for this food*, for this time together and all Your other gifts.
Bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies and us to Your service.
Forgive us of our sins and keep us mindful of the needs of others.
In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.

*Inserted here is “the hands that have prepared it,” if, for example, some part of the meal has been brought in: “Chicken Minis” from Chik-fil-A, scones from Panera Bread, or Hotcakes from McDonalds.

Since Mother, Dad, and I have lived together here this has been the prayer I offer as we begin our day … thankful for the blessings of the night past and the new day. I always include thanks for the food and this mealtime together, as we really like breakfast. I ask God to bless the food which will nourish our bodies and strengthen us for God’s service. Though the day is early, I ask for our sins to be forgiven and that we would be alert and sensitive to the needs of others. I close it by praying in Christ’s name.

Prayer

O Lord, as nutritionists remind us of the importance of starting the day with a good breakfast, so it is good to begin our day with conversation with You. Accept our thanks for the blessings of the night and the day and for providing us with our daily bread. Pardon our sins and help us to show the compassion of Christ to all that we meet. In His name, we pray. Amen.
