Proverbs 30:15-16
15 The leech has two daughters;
“Give, give,” they cry.
Three things are never satisfied;
four never say, “Enough”:
16 Sheol, the barren womb,
the earth ever-thirsty for water,
and the fire that never says, “Enough.”
Is there a leech mentioned in the Bible?
Yes.
Once.
And it is not a flattering picture.
I think my first exposure to leeches was the movie “The African Queen.” (If you have ever seen the scene where Humphrey Bogart climbs back into the boat, covered with leeches, the image will stick to you.)
In Proverbs, the leech is the blood sucker that is never satisfied, and it is not alone.
If we connect ourselves to our spiritual source in God, nothing will ever bleed us dry.
Prayer
God, let me find my source and my strength in your word, your will, and your presence in my life. Amen
