Matthew 6:19-21
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[h] consume and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust[i] consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Moths tend to destroy treasures silently. You don’t hear them gnawing away, until their damage is ultimately revealed. Jesus warned that materialism works in the same way. We turn our heart away from people and toward our things, and before we know it our relationships are in tatters and our hearts are too.
Prayer
God, as I am assessing my treasures today, let me be counting my blessings in the healthy relationships I have with you and others. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
