Psalm 121
“1I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come?
2My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
3He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.
4He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
7The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
8The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.”
What perspectives change as you pause on a walk, maybe you are lucky enough to take a walk up a mountain or a hill and see everything differently? As my mother and I made our slow climb to parts of the El Yunque National Forest to enjoy the rainforest in Puerto Rico last May, I paused to take this photo. The beauty of God’s creation laid out in varied shades of greens and blues. The mountains lush vibrancy of plants, the blues of the sky and hazy, in the distance the ocean. What words of beauty and enjoyment of God’s creative work there, to just take it gave me such peace.
Prayer
Gracious Creator, I stand in awe of the majesty, beauty, and creative wonder that being with your creation, gazing up, to the hills and mountains. I am silent and humbled that in the midst of all this, you, indeed, love and save me. Thank you, Amen.
