I Kings 6

When the editors of the Spark Story Bible tell the story of Solomon Building the Temple, they take a complex and detailed account and summarize it for children. They talk about the process (cutting the stones and timbers and bringing them to the place) and the materials used (cedar wood, large stones, and gold galore). They tell how the Ark of the Covenant was housed in a special room in the Temple, and the belief that “Wherever the Ark of the Covenant was, God was there too.”

The words and the pictures help explain to young believers why we might feel close to God within a special building (like a Temple or church).

Then they state:

The people worshipped God in the temple to feel close to God.

Where do you feel close to God?

While it is true that God exists all around, is there a place where you feel especially close to God?

Prayer

God, help me to find myself someplace today where I can focus on You and feel Your presence. Amen.
