Go Without Hesitation

Meanwhile, as Peter was puzzling over the vision, The Holy Spirit said to him, “Three men have come looking for you.” Get up, go downstairs, and go with them without hesitation. Don’t worry, for I have sent them.” Acts 10:19-20

There is a lot going on in this chapter. We meet Cornelius and learn about him. We find Peter in the middle of a rather profound vision from God and we see Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit just as the Jews had. There is a lot of good news here. What stood out the most to me, however, was this verse, “Get up, go downstairs, and go with them without hesitation. Don’t worry, for I have sent them.” Every single day God calls us to do things for his glory. He asks the same thing of us as he did Peter. Go without hesitation. I hesitate often wondering the ins and outs of how things are going to work out. When all the while God is whispering,” Go without hesitation. Don’t worry.” I know that is where my anxiety comes from. I contemplate what I should do when God has so clearly told me in no uncertain terms what to do. Peace would follow if I would get up and go without hesitation. Peter didn’t take time to pray on it or decide if it was the best choice. He knew God was telling him to go, so he did. He dropped everything and went with these men simply because God said to go.

I am not going to quote statistics because they are ever changing, but I did hear the other day that anxiety is literally plaguing our nation. More Americans suffer from this disorder than ever before. Dare I say that it is because we are wrestling with God when he tells us to go without hesitation? That doesn’t mean it will be easy, but there will be peace. Or maybe people are searching for a deeper relationship with God or a relationship at all for that matter and they don’t even know it. This is why we should all have a sense of urgency in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and stop making excuses for sin in our lives. God says sin is sin and we have to believe Him when he says what he says. He has the peace that passes all understanding and he knows what is best for us if we would only drop everything and follow his lead and quit asking, “What if? Should I or shouldn’t I? How? Why?” and just go without hesitation.

Prayer

God of all creation, I pray that today I would drop everything and go without hesitation and follow your lead. I pray today, in the name of Jesus Christ, that I would stop wrestling with you when you tell me what to do or where to go and just go. Thank you for your words and Peter’s example of how to follow you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
