Devotions Based on Hymns from Glory to God and Their Scriptural Allusions
Deuteronomy 8:3
In talking to the children of Israel about the mighty acts of God, manna in the wilderness would rank near the top. In Exodus chapter 16, as the people who have just been delivered from 400 years of slavery in Egypt start complaining about hunger on their escape route. God sends bread from heaven, a substance known as manna.
Moses reminds the people of this wonderful daily gift from God in Deuteronomy 8:3:
3 He humbled you by letting you hunger, then by feeding you with manna, with which neither you nor your ancestors were acquainted, in order to make you understand that one does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Hymn 541 is often chosen as a closing song for worship. It too asks us to remember how God has (and does) provide what we need in our lives:
God be with you till we meet again, Unseen wings protecting hide you,
Daily manna still provide you, God be with you till we meet again.
What a wonderful affirmation for this day.
Prayer
God, let me remember the mighty ways You have provided for me. Let me be on my journey today knowing that You are with me always. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
