Looking at Psalm 16 this week, I am going to focus on verses 5-8. Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

As humans we tend to make our own plans first and then ask God to bless them. However, first and foremost, we need to seek God’s will first. God is with us every single day through everything that comes our way. Reading these few verses brings me such amazing comfort and hope. First off, He alone is my portion and He makes my lot secure. God provides us exactly what we need and when we need it. Oftentimes, we tend to get stressed out when we think we need more or desire different plans than what He has for us.

It’s also vital that we praise Him through it all. In the good times and the bad times, just like the song says, He’ll be on our side forevermore, that’s what friends are for. The awesome thing, our God is so much more than “just a friend.” I love the fact that we can praise the Lord all day long; we don’t need a certain appointment time to praise His holy name. Keeping our focus on Him helps to direct our steps and keeps our hearts calm and secure in Him. We will not be shaken, if we keep our focus on Him and the plans He has for us. What a great daily prayer these few verses would be to remind us as we begin each day. Our God is enough for us friends. He provides our daily needs, plus so much more. He is there with us through everything that comes our way, He just asks us to keep our eyes focused on Him and of course it’s important to give Him thanks and praise all through the day. Every day is a gift – let’s celebrate the day together!

Prayer

Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
