Devotional Thoughts Based on the Glory to God Hymnal

Isaiah 28:16

Just the other day I was struggling to gain my footing while going down a little slope.  It is unsettling in life to not have a firm foundation.

As the people of God were struggling through some significant life challenges, the Prophet Isaiah reminded them that God was doing things that would solidify their future:

16 therefore thus says the Lord God,
See, I am laying in Zion a foundation stone,
a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation:
“One who trusts will not panic.

Isaiah 28:16

That promise continued to give hope to God’s people throughout the New Testament times and writings.

 How firm a foundation, you saints of the Lord,
is laid for your faith in his excellent Word!
What more can he say than to you he has said,
to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

  “Fear not, I am with you, O be not dismayed;
for I am your God, and will still give you aid;
I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,
upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

We still find great comfort and strength as we find ourselves firmly resting on the foundation stone.

Prayer

God, in a shaky world, thank You for securing my footing upon that cornerstone laid in the person and work of Jesus.   You keep me from panicking as I walk each day along the path of discipleship, following my Lord and Savior Jesus, in whose name I pray.  Amen.
