Devotional Thoughts Based on the Glory to God Hymnal

Isaiah 41:10

“Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”

A little girl awakened her mother by crying in the middle of the night. The mother tenderly caressed her daughter and assured her that she had a bad dream and that she had nothing to fear. As the mother was leaving, her daughter said, “Mother, I am still afraid.” The mother hugged her daughter again before turning to leave and said, “Honey, remember God is always with you.” The daughter quickly responded, “Mother, I know God is always with me, but I want someone with some skin on!”

When we are young it helps when we are frightened if someone holds our hands. Sometimes even when we are older … old, we still want that comforting presence. Just knowing someone is with us and that someone is holding one of our hands means so much!

“Fear not I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
for I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
 upheld by my righteous omnipotent hand.”

In times of trials and sorrows, God is with us. We are reminded that whatever difficulties we may encounter, God’s grace will be sufficient for all of our needs. God is with us. God will never fail us! God will not forsake us. Those are words of great comfort. Whether or not we have someone to hold our hand, God’s hand will never lose its grip on us. Thanks be to God!

Prayer

Lord, we thank You that You hold us in the palm of Your hand and that You will not ever lose Your grip on us. Help us to lend our hand to others who may be comforted by our presence with them in times of illness, trials and sorrows. In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.
