The Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Corinth about God’s presence in our lives as “a treasure contained in clay pots.” (II Corinthians 4:7) We are vessels of something special. Paul also told this group of believers that our individual bodies were “temples of the Holy Spirit”. (I Corinthians 6:19) God fills us with a precious gift.
In the same manner, Hymn 699 in the Glory to God Hymnal also reflects the belief that God’s children receive a holy gift that might just overflow as blessings to others. God does “Fill My Cup” and the grace flows:
Lord, let me be your instrument, spreading sunshine in the land.
Let people see your works in me; help live the best I can.
Fill my cup; let it overflow, Let it overflow with love.
Prayer
God, I offer myself to be used as a receptacle and a fountain of your grace and mercy. Let me receive your free-flowing love, and let it spill over into my relationship with all whom I encounter. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
