Like clouds and wind without rain
is one who boasts of a gift never given. Proverbs 25:14

Not too long ago, I thought it was going to rain in the evening. Dark clouds moved in from Tampa and Lakeland. The wind picked up. (I had been following the line of potential showers on the radar.) I stood there first in the yard, and then the back porch just waiting in anticipation. My yard and I were so excited, and then nothing fell from the sky. Nothing.

That’s the same feeling that is produced when we boast of a gift never given. We all have the potential to do some great thing in someone’s life. And we may even brag about our skills and gifts, but we’re just blowing hot air if we don’t share that gift, skill, or talent, giving it freely to someone else.

Think today about how God has blessed you. You may have a smile that warms people’s hearts; the financial resources to help ease someone’s burden; the time to visit and erase another’s loneliness. If you see that gift welling up in you, then let some of it shower down and water someone else’s garden.

Prayer

Creator God, thank You for how You have blessed me. Help me today to be a blessing to another of your children. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
