Like cold water to a thirsty soul,
so is good news from a far country.
Proverbs 25:25

I drink lots of different things in the course of a week: milk, orange juice, green Gatorade, SunDrop, Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper (or Mr. Pibb), and water. But the one I find to be the most satisfying is water. A big cup of cold water does more for me, physically and mentally, than just about any other drink. It is refreshing.

The writer of Proverbs had beverage options too. Milk (often goat’s milk.)  There was wine and fruit juices. And yet when he was trying to tell us what good news is like, he compared it to “cold water to a thirsty soul.” We know what he meant.

Good news is refreshing. Good news is something we long for.  Good news hits the spot in the soul that many other things don’t.

So, what good news do we know?

God loves us more than we love ourselves.

God sent His Son to die so that we might be forgiven of our sins.

In God’s love I get to live abundantly here, and to live forever.

God wants all of us to know God’s love, and live God’s love.

Share this good news with someone today. It will be refreshing for both of you.

Prayer

Dear God, make me a fountain of the good news of your love, in and through my Lord and Savior Jesus, in whose name I pray.  Amen.
