Devotional Thoughts Based on the Glory to God Hymnal
Daniel 4:3
How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and his sovereignty is from generation to generation.
King Nebuchadnezzar recounts to his people the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for him.
Do you remember your senior year in high school? At the end of the year the class voted for the superlatives. The members chose the boy and girl who were the most attractive, the most athletic, the most talented, the most intelligent, etc. There were also some superlatives to which class members did not aspire: the most conceited, the biggest flirt, the shyest, the class clown or jokester. From this hymn we see that Jesus would walk away with the best superlatives.
Jesus shall reign where’er the sun does its successive journeys run; His kingdom stretchs from shore to shore, till moons shall wax and wane no more.
Jesus kingdom is greatest for it stretches from shore to shore. Jesus’ kingdom is the most enduring because it lasts till moons shall wax and wane no more.
O Lord, you are the most loving and forgiving God there ever could be. We praise you that your reign endures forever and is all encompassing. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
