Matthew 5:1-12

I am sure you are very familiar as I am when it comes to reading the Beatitudes; the teaching of our Lord Jesus, the prince of all preachers. There can be no question that Jesus excelled as a preacher. I always enjoy hearing good preaching, but I just can’t imagine what hearing Jesus preach would be like, it must be by far the greatest blessing I could ever believe.

I just can’t imagine how glorious it must have been to be able to look up into his face and listen with an open heart to the wondrous message Jesus shared. Its heart warming today just reading his words found in Matthew, imagine hearing his sermon. Though we are not able to hear his words, we know the message; repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!

To help us in our journey of understanding the powerful yet loving words Jesus shared. Take a moment to let Jesus teaching about God’s Kingdom coming to earth enter your heart. Jesus the Lord was telling those who were hearing his words and to us who are reading them, that to live in God’s kingdom is to know peace, to experience righteousness, to be called children of God because we are assured of God’s kingdom. What Jesus is sharing with us today is that this life continues to have its tests and trials and tribulations, but having a living faith in His Father’s great love and compassion comforts us. The word beatitude carries several meanings; happy or fortunate or blissful. This is what we have from the blessings of God’s Kingdom in our lives.

Prayer

Our heavenly Father, the Father of our Lord Jesus and our Father, to know we are in your care takes all our fears and trials away, and our hearts filled with your love. In Christ we pray. Amen.
