Let’s Shine!

I have a dear friend Cindy who I call my own personal lighthouse. She is there to shine her light and His, when my days get a little bit dark and cloudy. No matter the circumstance or time, I know that she is there and she will do her best to put His Word in my heart and lift me up when I’m feeling a little down or frustrated. It seems like no matter what she’s doing or where she is – she’s there, shining for Him – at the gym, Junior League, the grocery store, with her friends, and especially with strangers – she is a lighthouse for the Lord. I often quote her the scriptures of Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.” My prayer is that she will continually be an inspiration for me to shine for God wherever I go and in all that I do.

Who can you be a lighthouse to this week? Where can you go to shine God’s love? Our Honduras Mission team travels nearly 1000 miles from Miami, Florida to Tegucigalpa, Honduras to shine for the Lord and trust me, they are shining bright. But the good news is, we don’t have to travel further than our homes to shine for God. We can shine for Him in our dealings with our family members, when we are at church, volunteering in the community, waiting patiently at the DMV (I know this is a difficult one), and anywhere the Lord leads us. We can shine for Him in all areas of our life. I love these verses in Matthew 5:14-16. They remind me what I need to do on a daily basis and how even one small act can move extraordinary mountains. Dwight Moody has a quote that says, “Lighthouses don’t fire cannons to call attention to their shining – they just shine.” That can be us friends – are you ready? Let’s Shine for Him!

Prayer

Oh Great Light of the World – help us to shine for You in all that we do and everywhere we go. We are your earthly lighthouses, and if we stay in your Word, then our lights will shine brighter every day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
