Living Life with Abandon

Some Jews came from Antioch in Pisidia and from Iconium; they won the crowds over to their side, stoned Paul and dragged him out of the town, thinking that he was dead. But when the believers gathered around him, he got up and went back into the town. The next day he and Barnabas went to Derbe.

Paul and Barnabas preached the Good News in Derbe and won many disciples. Acts 14:19-21

Paul had some kind of faith, didn’t he? Even after being stoned and left for dead he got up and went to another town still preaching the Good News that is Jesus Christ. Again, Paul exhibits an unshakable faith. He had the kind of faith the goes beyond self preservation. He had the knowledge, not just the belief, that his eternity would be so much better than this life. When our mind set is focused on kingdom things and not earthly things, we can also have that kind of faith that causes us to live with abandon. This is the kind of faith that stands firm even when we are faced with certain death. That might mean a physical death or death to our status in society or death to our old selves. I pray that I can live my life in the same way. I pray that I can live my life with abandon and surrender myself totally to Christ’s will.

Prayer

Gracious God, help me to do Your will. I pray for the strength to fight the good fight in Your name. Paul was a wonderful example of living a life with abandon. Help me to do the same. In Jesus Name, Amen.
