I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ -for this will bring much glory and praise to God. Philippians 1:9-11
This is what the Christian walk is all about, continuing to grow in knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is the reason we read his word daily and pray without ceasing. “For I want you to understand what really matters…” Philippians 1:10. How else will we understand and embrace what really matters if we are not continuously growing in knowledge and understanding. By doing this we will also,” be filled with the fruit of your salvation.” Philippians 1:11. The point of it all is to,” bring much glory and praise to God”.
The moment I feel like I have it all figured out is the moment you can be sure that I certainly do not! Our lives, once given to Christ, must be filled each day with his word and in prayer. That is how we find peace in the valley and hope for an uncertain future. Jesus loves us so much that he died for us so that we could experience these things. We have to do our part in faithful service and obedience. We are not puppets on a string. We have to make the choice to follow in obedience and to grow in knowledge and understanding.
Gracious and Loving God, I pray that my love for you and for your people will overflow more and more and that I keep on growing in your knowledge and understanding. I pray that each day I empty myself of me and fill myself with your word and your Holy Spirit and bring much glory and praise to you. Thank you for your faithfulness and unconditional love for me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
