Hebrews 13:1-2

Recently I preached on life verses (particular scriptures that might speak to us at different steps along our faith journey, becoming an “anthem of your life”). In that sermon, I reflected on the recent passing of a saint and a true angel in our own congregation, a person whose smile, hugs, and weekly greetings had welcomed people to First Pres for decades.

In my musings, I mentioned a verse that at least to me seemed to define the life of this gracious lady.

Hebrews 13:1-2

13 Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.

If any of us are searching for a verse to help guide our days and life, this would be a good one to adopt.

We meet strangers each day. Rather than immediately adopting the posture of “stranger danger”, what about being guided by mutual love and showing hospitality?

We might even meet another angel in the deal.

Prayer

God, as I go through this day, let love become my life’s work and hospitality my hallmark. I ask this as I follow my Lord and Savior Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.
