When I preached on “life verses” a couple of weeks ago, I was greeted at the door after the service by a church member who was eager to share a favorite life verse with me:
8 He has showed you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,[a]
and to walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:8
What does the Lord require of us?
Do justice.
Love kindness.
Walk humbly with our God.
Like the old Golden Rule, Micah 6:8 is short, sweet, and to the point. It truly is a verse to lead us in our daily living.
The member who shared this verse told me that it would soon be tattooed on his forearm. That’s a pretty powerful reminder but having this verse as a daily set of instructions may just be worth the pain and the permanence.
God, help us to humbly follow the lead of Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus, as we do justice and love kindness today. Amen.
