Love That Shows

“You’re actions are speaking so loudly, that I can’t hear a word that you’re saying.” That criticism is directed at some people when what they say doesn’t really match up with what they do.

We can’t, though, say this about God. God’s love comes to us in person before we ever hear that God loves us. In one of the most famous New Testament quotes, John reminds us that

For God so loved the world that he sent his only Son, that whoever believes in him would not perish, but instead would have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

The coming of Jesus into the world is the proof of God’s amazing love for us. That God would come in human flesh to love us, to live among us, and to pay the penalty for the sinful ways that we live through death on a cross, is powerful proof of God’s love. And God did this all before we could do anything good or bad.

With that type of action already done for us, our ears are eagerly attuned to the good news: “God loves us.” What God has done for us in Jesus Christ makes the words ring true.

Prayer

Thank You, God, for what was done for me on a hill outside Jerusalem on the cross. Help me to always accept that love that will not let me go, as I cling to my Lord and Savior, Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.
