Devotional Thoughts Based on the Glory to God Hymnal

Psalm 20:1-5

According to the note in the hymnal, “this text is loosely based on Psalm 20.”

I usually read the scriptures in the New Revised Standard Version. One exception is when I read Psalm 20. Years ago, a friend sent me a little print-out of this Psalm 20 from the Living Bible. I love how these words flow, and the promises made to God’s children:

20 In your day of trouble, may the Lord be with you! May the God of Jacob keep you from all harm. May he send you aid from his sanctuary in Zion. May he remember with pleasure the gifts you have given him, your sacrifices and burnt offerings. May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans. May there be shouts of joy when we hear the news of your victory, flags flying with praise to God for all that he has done for you. May he answer all your prayers!

Psalm 20

Prayer

In my day of trouble, let’s remember, Lord, that You are with me. I will trust that You hear my prayers. I will wave flags and shout for joy as You lead me through life victorious as a child of God and a follower of Jesus Christ, in whose name I pray. Amen.
