One is commended for good sense,
but a perverse mind is despised.
Proverbs 12:8

An advertising campaign from years back reminds us that “A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste.” The good sense that God has given us is truly a gift. We can treasure and hone our minds, and the author of Proverbs says that we will be commended for displaying our good sense.

As computers began to dominate the information realm, another saying stuck: “Garbage In, Garbage Out.” We need to monitor the quality of what we input, or we just get junk in return. The writer of Proverbs states that a perverse mind is despised.

We can value the minds that God has given us by exercising our good sense to keep our minds keen and clean and focused on the goodness of God.

Dear God, open my heart and mind today to that which is commendable and blessed, so that I can be a blessing to You and others. Amen.
