Daily Devotion Focusing on the Missions Supported by First Pres

Psalm 133

How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion. For there the Lord ordained his blessing, life forevermore.

Saturday Nite Live is a ministry of First Presbyterian Church providing recreational programs for mentally and physically challenged late teens and adults. Through a wide variety of monthly events, the program provides fun opportunities for socialization and fellowship.

Its purpose is to:

  • provide fellowship activities in a Christian setting
  • create an atmosphere where friendships are developed with peers and others
  • give an opportunity for parents to meet for support or have respite
  • offer interactive worship experience
  • afford opportunities for missions and outreach to others
  • celebrate each individual’s giftedness as a child of God.

Featured events last year included a Service Nite (bagging lunches for the hungry in our community and crafting valentine cards for Soup Kitchen recipients), several themed dances, a cookout at Camp Endeavor, a music program, a guest entertainer, holiday movies and crafts, and more.

For more than two decades, this ministry has been an important part of the mission and outreach effort of our church. Countless volunteers and generous gifts have made this possible. The group receives some donations from individuals and groups related to the SNL guests, but this program is primarily supported through monies designated by the Deacons as a portion of funds for local mission.

Prayer

Creator God, we rejoice as the myriad of faces and voices that make up the body of Christ. We thank You for the Saturday Nite Live ministry and the incredible ways that it shares Your presence, love, and joy with all Your children. Guide us to seek out ways to share Your love with everyone we encounter in our lives. In Your name we pray, Amen.
