Ruth 1:1-22
The Bible is filled with names of people who encountered God. Mentioning these names often triggers deeper stories.
Naomi
Orpah (Don’t get this wrong, it’s Orpah NOT Oprah)
Ruth
The story soon becomes the tale of just two. As the editors of the Spark Story Bible tell the story of Naomi and Ruth to children, they quote an important part, where Ruth says
“I can’t leave you! I will go where you go, I will live where you live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.” Ruth loved Naomi no matter what – just like God loves us no matter what.”
The biblical story of Ruth is indeed a multi-layered love story. It’s good to associate that name with memories of God’s deep love for us.
God, let me read the Bible as a love letter written for me. Help me to find in these words deep assurances of the love that will not let me go – your love displayed ultimately in my Lord and Savior Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.
