My Jesus I Love Thee

My Jesus I love Thee, I know Thou art mine
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign
My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art Thou
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus ‘tis now

I love Thee because Thou first loved me
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus ‘tis now

I love Thee in life and I will love Thee in death
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus ‘tis now

In mansions of glory and endless delight
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus ‘tis now

I have heard this hymn many times growing up and loved it, but recently Casting Crowns put these words to a contemporary melody. I love hearing these old lyrics put to a contemporary tune. I mean, I really love it! I grew up in a traditional Presbyterian church so hymns are near and dear to my heart. I worry sometimes that the youth of today will miss the beauty of their meaning. Casting Crowns hit the nail on the head with this song. I strongly encourage you to listen to this particular version of this old hymn. I was blown away when I heard this rendition of “My Jesus I love Thee”. The sound is as though the artist is longing for Jesus which is how I feel about Him. I can’t wait sometimes to have a moment with Him. I get excited anticipating a quiet moment in His presence. In those moments nothing else matters and the pressures of the day melt away.  Sometimes listening to those hymns, particularly this hymn, I get that same feeling. I have listened to this song on repeat since the day I purchased it a week ago. Each time I am filled with his presence and peace washes over me.

If you haven’t heard this song already do yourself a favor and listen to it. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you up and enjoy the moment.

God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.” Ephesians 2:4-5

Prayer

Dear Gracious Lord, Help us, this very moment, to allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through us. Let us go to you and enjoy your presence. I pray that whatever is going on in our lives that we surrender it up to you and allow you to replace hurt and heartache with your overwhelming love and peace. In Jesus Name, Amen.
