My Christmas Tree Makes Me Smile

During the Advent season, my heart is happy as I take out my Christmas decorations and locate in the back of a closet, my Christmas tree. While growing up my family would take the time to put up a large, live Christmas tree. But now, living on my own, I decided a mini-tree would be perfect. And if I was going to own a small, under four-foot tree to use again and again, I wanted one that would make me smile.

So, perusing local shops at the time and exploring online relators or resale sites, I saw the magic of silver tinsel trees in vintage shops. Whenever I came across one, a big smile came across my face, I don’t know why, and even as I type this devotion, it makes little sense. Yet as I envisioned where in my living room I would place a tree and display Christmas gifts, I saw a vintage tinsel tree reflecting light all around the room.  But the prices were steep, and the expense just couldn’t be justified when I had decorations, lights, and Christmas gifts for family and friends still unpurchased, so I put it aside. I got busy. But one afternoon, as I visited a store for other reasons, there it stood, surrounded by all the beauty and glitz of Christmas trees for all shapes and sizes of families, a small, bright pink, pre-lite Tinsel tree. It dazzled with little lights throughout its branches. It shone with a uniqueness of bright pink in a sea of green and red. It brought a huge smile to my face as I found coordinating ornaments and decorations that would truly make MY living room ready for the Christmas season. And so, as this Christmas comes, I will find somewhere in my new home, that small pink tinsel Christmas tree, and smile as I set it in a prominent position and allow its small lights to twinkle to remind me of the joy it represents.

Proverbs 15:13a

A happy heart makes the face cheerful,
but heartache crushes the spirit.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

“How great my joy! Great my joy!
Joy, Joy, Joy! Joy, Joy, Joy!
Praise we the Lord in heaven on high!
Praise we the Lord in heaven on high!”

Thank You for bringing us joy with the birth of Jesus Christ our Savior and for all the joys we derive from decorating and celebration of the seasons
