Devotional Thoughts Based on the Glory to God Hymnal
Proverbs 15:41
The ear that hears wholesome admonition will lodge among the wise.
I enjoy my Sirius radio in the car, and I try to play it at a volume that does not disturb others. I have been in traffic where the car next to me or behind me is playing their radio so loud that my car is vibrating. The songs also have lyrics with language I do not use and do not like to hear. I am grateful that the Holy Spirit has restrained me so that I have not said something that might infuriate the driver of the vehicle whose music (and I use that term very loosely) is driving me to distraction. Meanwhile I am praying for the traffic light to change that I might escape the other driver one way or another. I have heard and know enough not to say something to the other driver that might set him or her off.
Open my ears that I may hear voices of truth thou sendest clear.
And while the wave notes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for thee, ready, my God thy will to see.
Open my ears; illumine me, Spirit divine!
O God, we thank You for teaching us that there is a time to listen and a time to speak. Guard us from saying the wrong thing. Help us to know when to be quiet and not speak. In this and all other endeavors grant us wisdom, we humbly pray in Christ’s name. Amen.
