Pray About Everything

Don’t worry about anything, instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all that he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, an right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worth of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me-everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:6-9

Y’all, this is my life verse if there ever was one! Don’t worry about anything. Those are words that seem impossible for someone who has worried since birth. I have been a worrier since I can remember having memories. Yet, the Bible clearly states not to worry about anything. My question for so many years was, “Yeah, but how?” Well, this verse tells us. It’s funny how I can read these verses so many times in my life and miss the meaning. I was so focused on not worrying about anything and failing in the endeavor that I missed how not to worry. The very next verse tells us to tell God what we need and then thank him for all that he has done. I think the thankful part is the money verse. If we can still thank God in the midst of our worry we learn to have a grateful heart. We learn to turn our focus on God and not ourselves. That’s how we stop worrying. Trusting God and thanking him for everything in this life even the hard things makes us turn our focus to Him. When we are focused on Him knowing that He has a plan then our worry subsides. I still don’t have this on lock down, people. I am, however, so grateful that God is walking beside me on this journey and will never leave me even when worry slips in.

I know this truth about not worrying in my head, but sometimes convincing my heart is another matter. I am reading an amazing book by Lysa Terkurst “Uninvited”. In this book she reminded me that just knowing God’s word is not enough. I must apply His word to my life and circumstances. What good is simply reading without applying His truths to my life. All this is to say, I know the cure for worry. I have read it a million times. It is my life verse after all. Now I have to pray that God shows me how to live this truth and apply it to my days.

Prayer

Gracious and Loving God, help me today to give my worries to You. I pray that the verse, “Don’t worry about anything” becomes my reality each day as I walk with You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
