This set is the wooden set of my childhood, one my family had from my father’s side of the family. During Advent, we’d lovingly set out this set on our fireplace, with all our Christmas decorations and as important as the tree and stockings. Our set received lots of love as we set it out each year as my family read aloud the Christmas story from Matthew.

Psalm 18:1-3

1 I love you, Lord, my strength.

2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield[b] and the horn[c] of my salvation, my stronghold.

3 I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and I have been saved from my enemies.

Prayer

Holy God, as we remember the messengers of good news to prepare the way for Your glorious realm. Anoint us with Your Spirit to proclaim Your Word so that in remembering the stories of Your Son, we too can experience joy within. In Christ’s holy name, we pray. Amen.
