Preparing to Celebrate the Birth of Our Savior: Christmas Village

My paternal grandmother was not one to decorate much for the holidays. She loved Christmas, but rarely do I ever remember a tree adorning her home. However, as a kid, we would go over to Grammy’s house to help her decorate. The cousins would take turns every other year. When it was mine and my siblings’ turn, I always loved setting up her little decades-old plastic village with this tiny, simple Nativity. The tallest figure is barely an inch; but all the important players are there, including an angel clad in a blue gown with a sash that says “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” – “Glory to God in the Highest!”

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life,[a] and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

Prayer

We praise You that the light of our Lord continues to brighten towns and villages around the world. Let Christ’s presence in my life shine brightly in love this day. Amen.
