If you know me at all, you know that I love sleep. Sleeping is the greatest. I think naps are the best, and my heart breaks every time my alarm goes off in the morning. I think I enjoy sleep so much because I just get so tired. We all do, don’t we? Life can be exhausting, and we just get tired. But, according to Psalm 121, God never does.
I find so much comfort in verse 3 when The Psalmist writes, “…the one who watches over you will not slumber” (NLT). Let that sink in for a minute – God never gets tired. God never slumbers or sleeps (v.4). He is watching over us every hour of every day, and He never gets tired! Because He never sleeps, we can relax and know that He is always watching over us day and night (v. 6). There is never a moment when we are not under the care and provision of God. How awesome is that?
The Lord is, quite literally, tirelessly keeping you and me under his watch. He is our protector, advocate, guardian, and shield. We can rest in the fact that even while we sleep, God is working to take care of us.
Lord, thank you for your ever constant protection of your children. Where we are weak and sometimes grow weary, you are strong and never grow tired. When we are tempted to worry, please remind us of your around the clock care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
