Names of Christ – Who Do you Say That I am?
10 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,[a] that our ancestors were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.
I Corinthians 10:1-4
There are several instances in the Bible where we’re invited to view Jesus as the Rock. They are varied as each author adapts their story to communicate some specific point (mainly that Jesus provides the stability or sustenance that we need).
There’s a song that I learned at a summer camp that just won’t leave my memory that goes:
He’s my Rock, my Sword, my Shield
He’s the Wheel in the Middle of the Wheel
He’s the Lily of the Valley
The Bright Morning Sun.
I don’t care what they may say,
I’m getting down on the knees and pray.
I’m going wait, wait right here “til Jesu comes.
I find comfort in claiming that Jesus is my Rock.
Wonderful God, on Christ the solid Rock I stand. Thank you for proving for me the foundation that I need. Amen.
