Matthew 6:19-21
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
For decades, the Salvation Army has helped minister to those who are less fortunate. The Salvation Army of Winter Haven’s Social Services provides short term emergency assistance to families and individuals in East Polk County. Basic purposes include assisting families in the solution of problems that interfere with healthy living, to promote individual and family stability, and to assist in an awareness of God’s care and love for every individual.
Through gifts and treasures our members contribute to our Deacon’s Fund, First Pres has annually partnered with our local Salvation Army Women’s Shelter (and Family Emergency Services) to minister in our community. Recently, the Salvation has closed the shelter and the sister organization known as Family Emergency Services. Our Deacons are lifting their continuing ministry up in prayer, and discussing how to best assist their special ministry now and in the future.
Prayer
God, you place us into human families and communities so that we might experience and share your love. We pray for the families in Winter Haven who are blessed by the ministry of organizations such as the Salvation Army. Show us all how we can join together in serving those in need as we follow our Lord and Savior, Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
